Standing Between People and the System: How Mr. Perry Built a Career on Trust, Advocacy, and Financial Peace of Mind

Few experiences create more anxiety than receiving a notice from the IRS. For many individuals and business owners, tax problems arrive wrapped in uncertainty, confusion, and the fear that the situation has already slipped beyond their control. In those moments, they are not simply looking for an accountant. They need someone who understands the system, communicates with clarity, and is willing to stand beside them until the matter is resolved.

That commitment has defined the career of Mr. Perry, Enrolled Agent and founder of Books, Taxes & More. Over the years, he has guided individuals and businesses through some of the most difficult tax situations they are likely to encounter. Yet his reputation has been built on more than technical expertise. He believes effective financial guidance starts with trust, is reinforced through honest communication, and delivers lasting results through thoughtful planning rather than quick fixes.

A Mission Born from Standing Up for Others

Every professional journey begins with a reason, and Mr. Perry’s is remarkably straightforward.

“I hate bullies, and the IRS represents the biggest bully in the world,” he says candidly. “I also am passionate about keeping people’s money in their own pocket.”

That conviction has shaped far more than his career choice. It influences the way he approaches every client relationship. To him, tax accounting is not simply about filing returns or interpreting regulations. It is about helping people regain control during some of the most stressful periods of their financial lives. His role extends beyond understanding tax law. It means standing beside clients as an advocate who understands both the rules and the personal concerns behind every case.

Trust Is the First Solution

Many people arrive at Mr. Perry’s office carrying more than financial problems. They are often facing mounting tax liabilities, government notices, or years of unresolved issues that have only grown more difficult to untangle. Before any strategy can move forward, however, one thing has to come first: trust.

“People come to me to have someone they can trust to step in,” he explains. “Critical to that is creating an environment of trust with clear and understandable communications. I have to be a calming force in the environment.”

His approach reflects the reality that technical expertise alone rarely eases anxiety. Clients need someone who can explain complex situations in language they understand, reduce uncertainty wherever possible, and replace panic with a practical path forward.

Solving Problems Before They Become Crises

After years of working with taxpayers and business owners, Mr. Perry has found that many of the most serious tax problems begin with surprisingly ordinary mistakes.

“The biggest mistake is procrastinating about dealing with the liability that exists,” he says.

Ignoring tax returns, setting aside IRS correspondence, or hoping a problem will somehow resolve itself almost always makes matters worse. Some people also attempt to negotiate directly with the IRS without fully understanding the process.

“The IRS will sound supportive,” he notes, “but they aren’t.”

His advice has remained consistent throughout his career: address problems early. Taking action before penalties and interest accumulate is almost always less expensive and far less stressful than trying to recover after the situation has escalated.

Looking Beyond the Immediate Problem

Although many clients first come to him in the middle of a crisis, Mr. Perry believes the real work begins once the immediate pressure has eased.

“After putting out the initial fire that brought them to me, I work with them so they don’t get in trouble again,” he explains. “That requires planning and committing to the plan.”

His focus is not on temporary fixes but on helping clients build stronger financial habits and develop tax strategies that reduce future risk. Planning becomes an ongoing relationship rather than a one-time transaction, giving individuals and business owners the confidence to make informed decisions before problems arise. That philosophy is especially important for entrepreneurs. Every major financial decision carries tax consequences, and consulting an experienced advisor before those decisions are made can prevent costly surprises later.

“Planning for the future is much less costly than trying to dig out,” he says.

Better Decisions Through Collaboration

Complex tax matters rarely exist in isolation. Legal, operational, and financial issues often overlap, making collaboration essential.

Throughout his career, Mr. Perry has worked alongside attorneys, financial advisors, and other specialists. Those experiences have reinforced his belief that clients achieve the strongest outcomes when professionals contribute their expertise while respecting one another’s roles.

“Each type of professional brings a unique perspective to the table,” he says. “We all stay in our lane and the client benefits from the best advice in every area.”

No single advisor has every answer. Bringing together experienced professionals with different perspectives often produces more balanced and effective solutions for clients facing complex challenges.

The Success That Matters Most

When asked about the most rewarding moment of his career, Mr. Perry does not point to awards, business growth, or professional recognition. Instead, he recalls helping a single mother whose business faced a potentially devastating financial burden after receiving poor advice. She owed the State of Georgia approximately $250,000 in taxes, creating monthly payment obligations that threatened the future of her business.

Over the course of five months, Mr. Perry worked through multiple levels of the state’s administration to negotiate a more manageable outcome. His efforts reduced the total liability by approximately $70,000 and lowered the monthly payments to a level the client could realistically sustain. Her business remains open today, she continues making payments, and she is on track to eliminate the debt within the next two years. For Mr. Perry, that outcome reflects the true value of his profession. Success is measured not simply by the amount of money saved, but by the businesses protected, the families supported, and the opportunities preserved.

Building Stronger Businesses from Day One

For entrepreneurs, Mr. Perry’s advice is practical and direct.

“Hire an experienced tax and accounting advisor from the beginning,” he says.

He also encourages business owners to build financial reserves during profitable periods, prepare for growth, avoid unnecessary debt whenever possible, and never ignore official correspondence. None of those recommendations is particularly complicated. Together, however, they create the foundation for long-term stability. Strong businesses are rarely built by reacting to problems after they appear. They are built by anticipating challenges and preparing for them before they become costly setbacks.

Mr. Perry’s career illustrates that tax accounting is ultimately about far more than compliance. It is about helping people face uncertainty with confidence, replacing fear with clarity, and developing financial strategies that support lasting success. In a profession often defined by regulations and deadlines, his work continues to be guided by something far more enduring: trust, advocacy, and a genuine commitment to helping people keep more of what they have worked so hard to earn.
